In nuclear power environments, cable protection systems must meet the highest standards of safety, reliability, and long-term performance. Extreme conditions — including radiation exposure, elevated temperatures, humidity, and strict fire safety regulations — demand advanced material solutions that go beyond conventional heat shrink tubing.

Our dual-wall co-extruded flame retardant heat shrink tubing is specifically engineered for nuclear power applications, combining a polyolefin outer shell with a thermoplastic adhesive inner layer through a co-extrusion process that ensures uniform bonding and consistent performance across the full length of each tube.

Key Technical Specifications

  • Operating Temperature: -55°C to +90°C
  • Shrink Ratio: 4:1
  • Standard Colors: Black (outer) / Red (inner adhesive)
  • Flame Retardant: Yes
  • RoHS Compliant: Yes

Performance Advantages

1. Flame Retardancy for Critical Safety

The outer layer is formulated with flame retardant additives that significantly reduce fire propagation risk in enclosed cable runs and junction areas — a critical requirement for nuclear facility compliance.

2. Superior Environmental Sealing

The hot-melt adhesive inner wall flows and bonds to irregular cable surfaces upon shrinking, creating a watertight, dust-proof, and corrosion-resistant seal. This is essential for cables routed through areas with humidity variation or potential chemical exposure.

3. Mechanical Protection and Strain Relief

The rigid outer layer provides abrasion resistance and impact protection, while the adhesive layer distributes mechanical stress evenly — reducing the risk of insulation fatigue at cable terminations and connectors.

4. Co-Extrusion Quality Advantage

Unlike traditional adhesive-lined tubing where the adhesive is applied as a separate layer, our co-extrusion process produces uniform adhesive distribution, stronger interlayer bonding, and improved long-term reliability — particularly important for systems requiring decades of service life.

Typical Application Scenarios

  • Cable splices and terminations
  • Connector sealing in high-humidity secondary circuits
  • Repair and maintenance of existing nuclear-grade cable assemblies

Why Choose Co-Extruded Over Standard Adhesive-Lined Tubing?

Standard adhesive-lined heat shrink tubing is manufactured by inserting a pre-formed adhesive tube inside the outer sleeve — a process that can result in uneven adhesive distribution and delamination under thermal cycling. Co-extrusion bonds both layers at the molecular level during manufacturing, producing a product with superior consistency and reliability for safety-critical applications.

Compliance and Certifications

  • RoHS compliant
  • Flame retardant formulation suitable for nuclear-grade cable protection requirements
